Without Community, Exploring Queer Isolation (2022)
Born from a discontentment with community-centered definitions of queerness, Without Community is a personal essay disguised as publication. Positioning myself as the moth and modern gay public space as an unforgiving sunlight I wished to dissect the stereotyped and externalized approach to queer life and reposition it as a method of being materializing in glittering multitudes, to create more room for an underlit queerness existing in the anti-social, the anti-sexual.
This project was created as part of Making Gender 2022, a collaborative virtual exhibition curated by Abdullah Qureshi. The original site this project was hosted on is linked in the image above, and I highly recommend you go there as well for the intended experience and to view the work of the many other talented contributors.
